July 19, 2011 (New York, NY) – The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) recently announced the recipients of the Rachel Robinson International Fellowship (RRIF) program. This year’s recipients are JRF Scholars Carol Guerrero from Boston University and Vina Vo from the University of Southern California. RRIF was established in 2007 to promote and support international study abroad opportunities for JRF Scholars. These scholars have demonstrated leadership potential, academic excellence and a strong interest in international advocacy and global service. The RRIF Fellows are participating in an internship with CARE. JRF has partnered with CARE, an international humanitarian organization that addresses root causes of poverty to improve basic education, prevent the spread of HIV, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity and protect natural resources. CARE also delivers emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters. The 2011 JRF/CARE internship is taking place in the Republic of Ecuador in South America. Past sites for summer internships took place in Ghana, Mozambique and Tanzania in Africa. The entire experience, from training to internship, lasts approximately 8-weeks.
NEW YORK (AP) — Jackie Robinson's family has taken part in a pregame tribute at Yankee Stadium on the 64th anniversary of the day he broke baseball's color barrier. Friday was Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball. All players, managers, coaches and umpires wore his No. 42 in memory of the Brooklyn star, who made his debut in 1947. Wife Rachel Robinson and daughter Sharon were honored before the Yankees played Texas. They were joined by Yankees stars Mariano Rivera, Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano. Rivera is the last big leaguer still regularly wearing No. 42. The number has since been permanently retired. Texas manager Ron Washington and Yankees manager Joe Girardi visited Little Leaguers in Newark, N.J., as part of the Jackie Robinson celebration.

As a child, Andia Winslow dreamt of taking to the skies to continue the legacy established by her late grandfather Colonel Robert V. Winslow, a Tuskegee Airman and proud US Air Force serviceman. Although, as a young adult, she set her sights instead on a career as a professional golfer, she was proud to accept her grandfather's Congressional Gold Medal of Honor on behalf of her family. This commitment to service and leadership has been the undercurrent in all of her ventures since childhood.
Kids from all over New York City gathered to take part in a day of activities meant to motivate them by teaching them about the life of baseball great Jackie Robinson. The program, known as Citi Field Kids Day, is now in its third year.
