Ayesha Lewis, a Queens (Laurelton) native with a profound passion for history, is currently a senior at Lehman College. As one of eight children of Jamaican immigrants, Lewis always felt that she needed to succeed in order to help fulfill her parents’ dream of a better life in America. At Lehman, Lewis remains involved in various extracurricular activities. She has been a mid-distance runner on the track team and has served as the Student Leader of Nutrition and Physical Activity for an organization called Peer Health Exchange. Peer Health Exchange trains college students to teach health education workshops in public high schools that do not have health education programs. She also participated in CUNY's Citizenship Now project, a program which uses college students to counsel and guide immigrants as they prepare their application for citizenship. Lewis also serves on the Student Senate and is active in student government on campus as a volunteer, and recently ran for an elected position. Ayesha spent her summer interning in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Congress in the Office of Representative Meeks. She is a member of the Lehman Scholars and Makauly Honors Programs at her school. Ultimately, she would like to attend Cornell Law School and become a Supreme Court Justice.
