A senior at the University of California, Los Angeles majoring in World Arts & Cultures concentrating in Dance. Rachel is an active member on the UCLA campus. Her extracurricular activities include performing with the World Arts & Cultures department in both quarterly and annual departmental shows as well as being active member of the African Arts Ensemble campus. In addition, Rachel is one of the founding members of the hiphop hippies. The hippies are a creative group of artist women which express their individualism through music, dance, art, fashion and poetry.
Rachel has dedicated personal time to mentoring high school students, informing them about scholarships, and revising University of California (UC) personal statements essays for the senior class of 2007, 2008 and 2009. It is her strong affiliation with the Vice Provost Initiative for Pre-College Scholars (VIPS) that has assisted her in connecting with high school students. VIPS is a partnership between UCLA and the Los Angeles and Pasadena school districts to help prepare historically underrepresented students become competitively eligible for admission to UCLA and to encourage pursuit of graduate and professional education. During the summer Rachel had the opportunity to study aboard in Spain for a language Spanish Intensive. Rachel has many aspirations for her future. She is enthusiastic about continuing her education through graduate school. Her ultimate goal is to develop and manage a non-profit organization whose focus is on youth enrichment through the arts.
