Newly-elected President of the Jackie Robinson Foundation Alumni Association shares his vision for an expanded JRFAA

Mwanga Mtengule (JRF ’01) is a senior associate in the New York office of Alston & Bird LLP and a member of the firm's Global Finance & Debt Products Group. The newly elected president of the Jackie Robinson Foundation Alumni Association, Mwanga received his law degree from the Duke University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Harvard University. Recently, we turned our spotlight on Mwanga who talked about his involvement with JRF and his plans to further strengthen the Alumni Association.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) presented the 2014 ROBIE Awards at its Annual Awards Dinner Monday evening, March 3rd at New York’s Waldorf=Astoria Hotel. Hosted by Legendary entertainer Bill Cosby, the event paid tribute to individuals who embody the humanitarian ideals and spirit of Jackie Robinson and raised funds for the Jackie Robinson Foundation’s model education program and the Jackie Robinson Museum project.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation Mourns the Loss of Friend and Supporter Bernard Winograd

Bernard Winograd, a Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) sponsor since 2004, died on March 1, 2014, at the age of 63. An eminently successful business executive, Winograd was passionate about education and he took his responsibilities as a JRF sponsor quite to heart. “His support for our Scholars was much more than financial,” said JRF President and CEO Della Britton Baeza. “A popular speaker on college campuses, Bernard often sought out JRF Scholars to take out to lunch or dinner, often engaging them in spirited conversations –the kind of thing they remember forever. He made it clear that he cared about our young people and their development. I very much wish we had more supporters and advocates like Bernard was.”

The Jackie Robinson Foundation Welcomes JRF Scholars and Alumni to the "Big Apple"

With boxes packed and ready to ship from the Foundation's downtown headquarters to the Grand Hyatt Hotel in midtown Manhattan, The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) is preparing to greet over 300 JRF Scholars and alumni starting Thursday, February 27th as its annual Mentoring and Leadership Conference (MLC) and alumni reunion gets underway. The four days of activities include critical leadership training linking personal and professional development with community service, civic engagement and global citizenship. JRF Scholars will have the opportunity to network with accomplished leaders in a wide array of professions and with many of JRF's friends and supporters whose generosity and service make the work of the Foundation possible.

Team of French professionals study Foundation's model to narrow the achievement gap

On February 13th, the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) hosted five visitors from France who were part of the U.S. State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The program provides for short-term visits to the United States by current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields, giving them an opportunity to experience this country firsthand while cultivating lasting relationships with their American counterparts.

Happy Birthday Jackie Robinson!

Jack Roosevelt Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia on January 31, 1919 to a family of sharecroppers. His mother, Mallie Robinson, single-handedly raised Jackie and her four other children. They were the only black family on their block, and the prejudice they encountered only strengthened their bond. From this humble beginning would grow the first baseball player to break Major League Baseball's color barrier that segregated the sport for more than 50 years.
