JRF President and CEO Receives the Amtrak Pioneer Award at Special NY Knicks Ceremony

Before a packed crowd at Madison Square Garden, Jackie Robinson President and CEO Della Britton Baeza was presented with the Amtrak Pioneer Award for her outstanding community contributions and leadership of the Jackie Robinson Foundation. The award ceremony held on Sunday, February 24th, was part of the month-long Black History celebration and is presented to an individual who initiates change for the betterment of their community in which they live through their job, volunteerism or by creating new charities and community programs.

2013 Robie Award Winners Announced

The Jackie Robinson Foundation announces the recipients of the 2013 ROBIE Awards, which will be presented at its Annual Awards Dinner on Monday, March 4 at 6:30 pm at New York’s Waldorf=Astoria Hotel. Hosted by legendary entertainer Bill Cosby, the iconic event pays tribute to individuals who embody the humanitarian ideals of Jackie Robinson and raises funds for the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

JRF Mourns Death of Longtime Staffer Sheila Sykes

The Jackie Robinson Foundation is sad to announce the passing of long time JRF employee Sheila Sykes following a brief illness. Sheila joined the JRF family in 1994 as an intern and was soon hired full time as Program Associate.

JRF Mourns Death of Jazz Great and Foundation Friend Dave Brubeck

The Jackie Robinson Foundation mourns the death of jazz musician Dave Brubeck who passed away on Wednesday, December 5th in Norwalk, Conn. Brubeck and his quartet attained pop-star acclaim with recordings such as "Take Five" and "Blue Rondo a la Turk". The group performed in many of JRF’s “Afternoon of Jazz” concerts including the first one in 1963. Brubeck was 91.

On Tuesday, November 27th, the Jackie Robinson Foundation hosted a webinar for National Urban League (NUL) staffers and its affiliates to provide members of the historic civil rights organization with insight into JRF’s highly successful mentoring and leadership program and application process. The NUL is the nation’s oldest and largest community-based organization of its kind dedicated to economic empowerment.
