Before a packed crowd at Madison Square Garden, Jackie Robinson President and CEO Della Britton Baeza was presented with the Amtrak Pioneer Award for her outstanding community contributions and leadership of the Jackie Robinson Foundation. The award was part of the month-long Black History celebration and is presented to an individual who initiates change for the betterment of their community in which they live through their job, volunteerism or by creating new charities and community programs.
Della Britton Baeza has served as President and CEO of the JRF since 2004. In addition to overseeing fundraising and current programs, Britton Baeza has worked to expand the Foundation's exposure and national outreach. Former Knicks star John Starks and Amtrak's Director, Sales and Marketing Kecia Babb-Jordan were on hand to make the presentation. On Friday, February 22nd, Meta Robinson , Jackie and Rachel Robinson's granddaughter, accepted a similar award at the Barkley Center on behalf of her grandmother.
