The production of the movie "42" is in full swing with shooting in Atlanta, Georgia. A few JRF Scholars have the unique opportunity of working on the set in various areas of the production. Scholars Lauryn Nwankpa, Aun’Joli Ferguson, Khyara Harris, Kendall Putmon, Joel Boyd, Michael Tabb and Neima Patterson are serving as interns and are learning about the many of the facets of movie-making.
The film is based on the first year leading up to Jackie Robinson's debut in the Major Leagues. Shooting got underway in mid-May. The film stars Harrison Ford as Brooklyn Dodgers General Manager Branch Rickey and Chadwick Boseman who portrays Robinson. JRF Founder Rachel Robinson, who also serves as a consultant on the movie, visited the set in early June.
Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have teamed up with director Brian Helgeland for “42,” which is slated for release on April 12, 2013. The film will open in time to commemorate the 66th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the baseball's color barrier – April 15-and lands on the heels of the opening of the 2013 MLB season.
