OPPORTUNITIES FOR GIVING

Why Give?

Now is the time to put our support behind America’s young achievers.  Their wisdom and conscience will define our future.  Each year, the Jackie Robinson Foundation receives more than 4,000 applications from students across the country.  At current funding levels, JRF can support 60 new Scholars annually.  With 84 cents of every dollar being spent directly on JRF Scholars through scholarships and education and leadership development support programs, a gift to the Jackie Robinson Foundation is a prudent investment in developing tomorrow’s leaders.  JRF supports individuals who will continue to excel, who will continue to succeed, and who will continue the Jackie Robinson legacy.  With your help, JRF Scholars will continue to rise to the needs and challenges of society.

General operating support as well as support for specific JRF programs and activities are critical to the work of the Foundation.  The following are giving opportunities for ensuring the health and sustainability of the JRF mission.

Volunteer Your Time

Volunteers are used in a wide variety of areas from serving on our regional selection committees, stuffing envelopes in the national office, serving as panelists or workshop leaders, helping with special events or mentoring scholars.

Annual Unrestricted Giving

It is critical that a not-for-profit organization such as the Jackie Robinson Foundation annually receive gifts that are not specified for a specific purpose.  This unrestricted revenue is crucial to meeting JRF’s operating needs that include staff salaries, office space and marketing materials.  It also is important for enabling the organization to plan based upon dependable, sustained, and increased annual giving from dedicated contributors.

Sponsoring a Scholar

The bedrock of JRF is our Education and Leadership Development Program (EDLP) which provides JRF Scholars with financial support, mentoring, internships, leadership discourse and training, financial planning and career counseling.  You can provide this vital support by sponsoring your named JRF Scholar with a commitment of $60,000/4 years @ $15,000/year or a one-time payment of $60,000.  Annually, this provides $6,000 in scholarship support, $1,500 for Networking Weekend support, and $2,500 in direct program support for each Scholar.

Endowing a Scholar

We encourage establishing a permanent named endowed fund to enable funding for a JRF Scholar in perpetuity.  At this time, the gift required to endow a JRF Scholar is $200,000, which based upon current investment and earnings rates, will provide the necessary annual scholarship and direct program costs for one Scholar.

Event Sponsorships

Each year across the country, JRF hosts a number of events that depend upon the support of sponsors who receive specific benefits for their support. The net proceeds from our events provide direct support for JRF and our programs.

Planned and Estate Gifts

The “ultimate gift” is one that is planned or deferred resulting from a contributor’s financial planning, which can be made by a contributor of any age.  Through gift instruments such as bequests, life insurance, stock, trusts, annuities, real estate, jewelry and art, contributors can meet, combine and maximize their income, beneficiary, tax, and charity goals.  JRF welcomes these gifts, and we will recognize these contributors in our “Legacy Society.”

Endowment Support

The maintenance and growth of an endowment is critical to supplementing, sustaining, and proliferating the operations, mission and vision of the Jackie Robinson Foundation.  The JRF Board of Trustees, our Finance Committee and our Investment Committee, in accord with prudent and fiscally responsible practices, review the JRF investment portfolio, earnings projections and funding demands to assure the highest level of contributor stewardship and strategic organizational support. (Fund manager: Merrill Lynch)

The “Legacy Campaign”

The JRF Board of Trustees have begun the “Legacy Campaign” to raise $25 million to develop The Jackie Robinson Foundation Museum to provide a physical tribute to Jackie Robinson, serve as a cutting-edge educational and leadership development center and house the JRF offices.  A monument to this American icon is long overdue and will be a fitting, meaningful, and active vehicle for continuing Jackie’s vision and ideals through enriching and inspiring the lives others.

For information about our "Legacy Campaign" or other Giving Opportunities, please call (212) 290-8600 and ask for our Development Department or email us at  support@jackierobinson.org.
