In Memoriam: Dr. Roscoe C. Brown, Jr.
July 5, 2016 - News
The Jackie Robinson Foundation deeply mourns the loss of trailblazer, educator and board member, Roscoe C. Brown, Jr. Dr. Brown served on the Jackie Robinson Foundation board of directors for 18 years.
Roscoe was a passionate, hands-on advocate for the work of the Jackie Robinson Foundation and the young people we serve. His tremendous expertise, particularly in the areas of social services and education, were valuable resources during his decades-long tenure. Roscoe’s insight and wisdom contributed greatly to JRF’s ability to expand both the number of students served and the enhanced services offered to Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars and Fellows.
Roscoe’s own exemplary service as a squadron leader for the celebrated Tuskegee Airmen, a segregated unit of African-American World War II pilots, echoed the social contributions for which Jackie Robinson is known and helped to alter mainstream America’s misconceptions around race.
JRF Founder Rachel Robinson, a dear friend of Dr. Roscoe Brown, and the entire Jackie Robinson Foundation community extend heartfelt sympathy to Roscoe’s four children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Among his many wonderful attributes, we will sorely miss Roscoe’s scholarship, his quick wit, his compelling charm, and his warm and generous spirit.
