“I am proud to call myself a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholar,” said Ashley. “To me this is not only an achievement but a responsibility to carry on the remarkable legacy that Jackie Robinson built through perseverance, passion, and love.”
The Carmichael, California native has earned a multitude of accolades including National Honor Society Member, National Achievement Scholarship Program Outstanding Participant, Optimist Club Speech Champion, and California High School Speech Association, Two-Time State Qualifier.
Ashley Kyalwazi pursues a Biological Science degree at the University of Notre Dame with hopes of becoming a doctor to serve and have a positive impact on the lives of others.
In addition to superb academic achievement, the United Health sponsored Scholar also served as the captain of the varsity soccer team, played varsity basketball, and served as the president of the Black/Latino Union Club, where she coordinated community events to promote unity. Further demonstrating her impact in the community, Ashley was appointed to the Sacramento Youth Commission as the Mayor’s Representative.
