“When I found out I had been selected as a Jackie Robinson Scholar, to say I was elated would be an understatement,” said Tristan. “This award will not only allow me to achieve my own career goals through higher education, but it will enable me to help combat social injustices that face young people across the United States.”
The Maryville, Tennessee native earned diverse distinctions including Honor Roll throughout high school, representative at Student Congress on Policies in Education (SCOPE), and representative at Tennessee American Legion Boys State—among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students.
Tristan Smith enters the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in pursuit of a Political Science & International Relations degree with aspirations of becoming a community organizer and entering public service.
In addition to his academic achievements and service to his fellow students, Tristan also performed as a member of the Orchestra as a Principal Violinist having the tremendous honor of playing at Carnegie Hall during his freshman year. Further demonstrating his commitment to public service, the multi-talented Scholar also served as Team Leader for the Model United Nations.
